Deadly Boating Accident on Lake Winola...
Fri. May 7th 2010

From WNEP.COM...

After hours of searching, dive crews in Wyoming County have recovered the body of a boater killed in a collision on Lake Winola.  The Lake Winola fire chief said four people were out on the boat Friday afternoon when the boat and a dock repair barge collided.

The barge was being operated by a person at the time of the crash. That operator did remain on scene after the accident. Dive crews were called to Lake Winola in Wyoming County Friday afternoon after a collision. Investigators said three of the four people on the boat where taken to the hospital for unknown injuries but the fourth boater went missing after the accident.

Tunkhannock and Germania both had their dive teams in the water and tragically, their search eventually turned into a recovery. They said the biggest problem divers were running into was low visibility.

"Currently we're diving in anywhere of 45 to 50 feet of water with I guess about 10, 10 to 15 feet of visibility. So very deep depths, cold, you get cold down there, murky type water so doing sweeping type patterns so we don't miss anything," said diver Mike Markovitz.

Police have not identified the victims of the boat crash.
